Woman found by roadside: Man charged and released

A male has been charged following the death of the 57-year-old female found on the roadway in Ajax, Durham Police said yesterday.

On Wednesday, September 20 at about 5 am, members of West Division received information that an individual was lying on the roadway near the intersection of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue in Ajax. Officers attended the scene and located a 57-year-old female suffering from severe head trauma. The female was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre and has since succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators reviewed surveillance cameras in the area and determined that a male suspect driving a white Dodge pick-up truck was involved in this incident. The suspect had been travelling north bound on Harwood Avenue when he turned into a plaza near Harwood Avenue and Kingston Road and struck the female on the roadway. The suspect soon after fled the area, said a police statement.

It said the 56-year old from Ajax, has been charged and was released on an undertaking. Name and further details are available at www.drps.ca.
