Yet another driver ‘attracted’ to a hydro pole

We have written before of the magnetic attraction of hydro poles for Durham drivers.

Yesterday, another incident furthered our theory – but this time, the ‘attraction’ did not last long as the driver ‘pulled’ away from the embrace and sped away.

Durham police investigators are now trying to identify the driver of a white, four-door Infinity sedan after it crashed into a hydro pole in Whitby yesterday morning.

On April 16 at about 3 am, a white sedan drove into a hydro pole on Dundas Street West, just east of Bell Drive in Whitby. The force of the collision broke the pole, but the hydro wires remained intact due to tension in the line. One home was evacuated given the possibility of the broken hydro pole falling on it, police said.

The driver was not located. Officers did locate an intoxicated male nearby who said he was one of two passengers in the vehicle. He was not injured. The identity of the driver is still unknown and the investigation is continuing, they added.

Hydro crews were called in to repair the damage and that section of the street was closed for repairs to be completed.

Anyone with information as to the identity of the driver is asked to call Central West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1855.
