A Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) initiative resulted in the issue of 122 traffic tickets relating to excessively loud vehicles and other violations on the roads.
DRPS East Divivision conducted a traffic initiative – Modified Motor Vehicle Initiative – with DRPS Central East Division on July 2 and 3.
The East Division looks after Clarington while the Central East Division covers Oshawa areas.
The initiative was aimed at curbing use of loud mufflers and unnecessary noise in cars, and was prompted from citizen complaints, said the police.
It said safety inspections were also performed on vehicles, in which several vehicles failed.
Tickets were issued for:
- Improper mufflers
- Unnecessary noise
- No horn,
- Improper tires
- Windows obstructed (tint and stickers)
- Unsafe vehicles
Police asked what other traffic related issues would residents like to see enforced?

Can this be done in Oshawa too? Frustrating that I have to spend my time complaining to get the police to inforce the law.
Finally, and continue please!!!
Absolutely tail gating that often leads to rear ending and driving over the speed limit. Need more checking and reporting violators.
– Improperly aimed beams/improper projector light housing/driving with high beams
– Obstructed license plates
– Driving with only DRLs or lights off at night
– Driving on the shoulder
– Driving below the limit in the passing lane on the expressway/highway
STOP SIGNS!
What an absolute waste of time. Leave people alone! What if I were to complain about regular cars not being sporty, fun, and loud enough???? Are you going to ticket for that too???
Stop signs in Oshawa are ignored. Loud cars are new trend, please catch these loud cars to help us live quiet.
