Durham Regional Police say 608 motor vehicle thefts have been reported across the region so far this year, as part of their ongoing initiative, Project Attire.
While this marks an 18 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year, police note that the number of thefts remains higher than in previous years.
Here’s the divisional breakdown of reported vehicle thefts since January:
- West Division: 256
- Central West Division: 152
- East Division: 102
- Central East Division: 69
- North Division: 29
Police are urging residents to check their security cameras regularly, noting that working surveillance equipment can be a critical investigative tool. Residents are also encouraged to register their security cameras with DRPS to assist with ongoing community safety efforts.
