Oshawa: $50 fee for shopping carts on public property

The City of Oshawa is reminding shopping cart owners about the retrieval and storage fee for carts found on city property and removed by them, in accordance with By-law 181-2022.

Shopping carts collected by the city are subject to a $50 retrieval and storage fee per cart. Owners looking to reclaim their carts must complete the “Shopping Cart Retrieval Request Form” online at Oshawa.ca/ShoppingCarts or contact Service Oshawa to begin the retrieval process.

Unless otherwise advised, payment of the fee is required at least two weeks before cart disposition dates.

Cart Disposal Schedule

Unclaimed shopping carts will be disposed of the week following:

  • April 1
  • July 1
  • October 1
  • January 1
