Ajax receives $60,000 grant for EV charging stations

The Town of Ajax announced that it has received a $60,000 grant from Ontario’s EV ChargeON program.

This funding will be used to install two Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Carruthers Marsh Pavilion and two at Rotary Park Pavilion, adding a total of eight new charging ports to the community, said a town announcement.

“Thank you to Minister Sakaria, Minister Lecce, MPP Barnes and the Government of Ontario for recognizing the town’s efforts to build the infrastructure we need to support a cleaner, greener Ajax,” said Mayor Shaun Collier. “As the growth of electric vehicle use continues to accelerate, these new EV chargers will support our residents and visitors to Ajax alike.”

The new charging stations, located in barrier-free parking lots, will be accessible to the public 24/7, year-round. This initiative aligns with the Town’s commitment to sustainability and green infrastructure, making it easier for EV owners to choose a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

“The Ajax community is committed to sustainability and green infrastructure, and we are grateful to the EV ChargeON program for providing local charging stations to the waterfront,” said Suprajha Vaithianathan, Energy & Sustainability Coordinator. “As a result of this initiative, community spaces will be enhanced, and future installations will be inspired.”

The installation of the EV charging stations is expected to begin in early June 2025.
