All safe after Hold & Secure at Pickering school

Durham District School Board (DDSB) yesterday announced that all student and staff at one of its schools in Pickering were safe and secure after a temporary Hold & Secure by police.

Students and staff at Glengrove Public School are safe and currently in a hold and secure for a community investigation. We ask everyone to avoid the area as Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) manage the situation, the board said.

The City of Pickering said DRPS was conducting an active investigation in the vicinity of Glengrove and Kingston Road and asked people to avoid this area.

As a cautionary measure, Glengrove Public School has been placed in a Hold & Secure, and all students and staff remain safe. We will provide updates as they emerge, said a city tweet.

DRPS said the police were in the area for an ongoing investigation in Pickering. Later, they announced that the Hold & Secure at Glengrove Public School has been lifted. “Police still remain in the area”.

No further details were released as of late last night.

Meanwhile, in a community update, DRPS said there was training along the waterfront in the community of Whitby Shores.

“You will notice an increased police presence. There is no cause for concern”.
