Back-to-School teacher caught in Durham speed net

Guess teachers have to get to school early, at least before the class starts.

But at the start of this term, there was at least one teacher who was running late and decided to step on the pedal.

Unfortunately, the keen-eyed officers of Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) were at hand with their radar guns, and flagged the teacher down.

First stunt driver of the day…a teacher! 95kmh in a 50kmh community safety zone. Numerous charges laid, said a DRPS tweet.

DRPS Traffic Services remarked that it was ironic. “First day of school and the first stunt driver is a teacher rushing to school”.

Even though DRPS said it was pleased to report the vast majority of motorists were obeying posted speed limits, there were many violators.

“This driver was in a rush to get the kids to school and was pulled over for going 72kmh in a 50kmh school zone. $205 fine for 22km over. Please obey posted speed limits”.

DRPS Traffic Services fined a driver $532 for speed and $110 for plate covers preventing the immediate identification of the licence plate – in a school zone in the Town of Whitby.

DRPS West Division reported a driving caught doing 87kmh in 60kmh school zone.

It’s officers also caught a suspended driver disobeying a sign in a school zone.

Meanwhile, DRPS North Division conducted radar along King Street in Prince Albert. A G1 driver unaccompanied by qualified driver was speeding 80kmh in posted 50kmh zone. The driver was charged accordingly.

DRPS found a driver weaving in and out of traffic at speeds in excess of 100kmh. Blew by traffic unit. Failed to stop for police. Eventually stopped and charged. Vehicle impounded, police said.

DRPS Traffic Services reported a driver at 37 over in a Community Safety Zone in Whitby and with expired permit (plates). It got the violator  who was “in a rush to get to work” $684 in total fines – slow down, especially in school zones, said the police.

DRPS East Division officers fined a driver $150 and awarded three points for not stopping at an All-Way Stop sign in the Community Safety Zone at Longworth Avenue and Swindells Street.

A similar story was repeated in Ajax by DRPS West Division.

First one of the day, no stopping in the community safety zone. 150$ fine two points.

Meanwhile, while enroute to a school zone A/Sgt Baumgartner was flagged down by passersby about an assault. The suspect fled but was apprehended after a foot pursuit with assistance from officers at DRPS West Division.

In another police-related event reported by DRPS K-9 Unit, PC Wayne King and K9 Rogue attended Newcastle to assist with an evidence search in relation to a robbery on Monday.

K9 Rogue was deployed to search for discarded evidence. Rogue quickly located crucial evidence related to the Incident.
