Two men are facing multiple charges related to firearms and drugs after fleeing from Durham police during a traffic stop in Whitby, according to investigators.
On Friday, April 4, around 2:10 am, officers from Central West Division were conducting proactive patrols near Paisley Court and Consumers Drive when they attempted to pull over a vehicle. The driver did not stop and instead collided with a police cruiser. All three occupants then ran from the scene.
After a short foot chase, police arrested two of the suspects nearby. Officers recovered a loaded firearm with an overcapacity magazine, additional ammunition, and another magazine. One of the men was reportedly wearing a body armour vest at the time of his arrest. Police also seized a quantity of drugs and Canadian currency.
The third suspect is still on the run. He is described as a Black male with dreadlocks, wearing a white tank top, a grey and black sweater, grey sweatpants, and blue Crocs.
An 18-year-old male and a 24-year-old male, both from Toronto, were charged and held for bail hearings. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
