Bowmanville Train: Topographic survey to end next month

The topographic survey work on the proposed Lakeshore East expansion to Bowmanville, is projected to be completed by March, according to Metrolinx.

“Since December through to March, topographic survey work will take place at properties near the Canadian Pacific (CP) rail corridor between Thornton Road South (Oshawa) and Bowmanville Avenue (Bowmanville),’ said an advisory.

“This important work is required to support the preliminary design activities for the Bowmanville Expansion project,” it added.

Residents can expect to see a small crew working within, or near the CP rail corridor. This work will be non-invasive and is not expected to generate a significant amount of noise, vibration, or dust.

Vegetation and Tree Clearing

Work continues to clear and remove some of the trees and vegetation located within the rail corridor between Rouge Hill GO Station to Rodd Avenue, Pickering.

Managing vegetation within and around our rail corridors has always been a fundamental part of providing safe and efficient GO Train service. It is crucial to maintaining sightlines for train operators and ensuring that staff and contractors have access to rail equipment, said Metrolinx.

Similar to Hydro corridors, trees will have to be removed along the electrified corridors to protect the electrification infrastructure, maintain service reliability, and for the safety of passenger service.

To fit and protect the new GO Expansion infrastructure, Metrolinx will establish a vegetation control zone along sections of our rail corridors, based on the 2020 Vegetation Guideline.

The vegetation control zone is a GO Expansion program requirement.
