Bowmanville water restriction lifted, it stays in other towns

The Regional Municipality of Durham has announced the immediate lifting of mandatory water restrictions in Bowmanville, located within the Municipality of Clarington.

According to the region, the restrictions were initially put in place due to a temporary capacity issue at the local water supply plant. One of the plant’s three filters required maintenance, but officials have now confirmed the issue has been resolved. Throughout the maintenance period, the plant continued to meet its high water treatment standards, and water quality was not affected.

With restrictions lifted, residents in Bowmanville may resume regular water use. However, the region reminds residents that “odd-even day lawn watering” remains mandatory from May to September, as outlined in the Regional Water Supply By-law #85-2003.

Meanwhile, water restrictions remain in effect for other communities across Durham Region — including Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Orono, Blackstock, and Greenbank — due to prolonged dry conditions and increased water demand amid extreme heat.
