Burn bans lifted in Clarington, Pickering, and Uxbridge

Burn bans put in place earlier this month due to dry conditions have now been lifted across several Durham municipalities.

Clarington Emergency and Fire Services announced that as of noon on August 20, the municipality’s burn ban has ended. Officials reminded residents that all open-air burning must still comply with Clarington’s Open-Air Burning By-law. More information, safety tips, and permit applications are available at www.clarington.net/OpenAirBurning.

The City of Pickering confirmed its city-wide fire ban, implemented on August 11, has also been lifted. The ban had been enacted as a precaution following prolonged drought, high temperatures, and reduced air quality.

In Uxbridge, the Township lifted its temporary open-air fire ban at 2 pm on August 20. The Uxbridge Fire Department is urging residents to remain cautious, as recent dry weather and dead grass continue to create heightened fire risks. A permit is required for all outdoor burning, and details are available at uxbridge.ca.

The bans had been introduced on August 11 in response to extremely dry conditions across the region.
