Charity bicycle ride for guide dogs in Newcastle this Sunday

The Lions Club of Bowmanville is hosting its first annual Ride for the Guide on Sunday, May 31, at Wilmot Orchards in Newcastle.

This community cycling event will raise funds in support of Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides, which provides specially trained service dogs to Canadians with disabilities at no cost.

These highly trained Dog Guides assist individuals with vision and hearing loss, autism, diabetes, physical disabilities, and other medical or psychological needs. Cyclists of all ages and skill levels are invited to take part in the scenic ride through Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Participants can choose from two route options:

  • 50 km Route – “Leader of the Pack”
  • 25 km Route – “Guide Dog Gallop”

Funds raised will help support the breeding, training, and placement of Dog Guides, creating life-changing partnerships that promote independence, confidence, and safety.

Meet Guide Dogs

In addition to the ride, participants and guests can enjoy refreshments and opportunities to learn more about the impact of Dog Guide programs across Canada. Guide Dogs in training will also be onsite, giving attendees a chance to meet some of the incredible dogs and learn more about their journey to becoming service companions.

Families and Dog Guide handlers will also be there to share their personal stories and experiences about how these incredible dogs have changed their lives.

Community members are encouraged to register, donate, or volunteer in support of this important initiative.

The Lions Club of Bowmanville is part of Lions Clubs International, a global service organization dedicated to improving communities through volunteerism and charitable initiatives. The club supports a variety of local causes with a focus on health, accessibility, and community support.
