Critical comments on social media targeting Clarington staff has promoted the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to voice her frustration.
“Don’t think I am not upset and frustrated at what is happening on social media that is affecting members of our team,” said CAO Mary Ann Dempster.
“It is sad that the political narrative is completely ignorant and tone deaf on the effects it has on the people who show up every day for this community. We take pride in what has been accomplished for the community,” she said in a June 17 letter to staff.
“I want to acknowledge the online discourse that has been amplified during the election period by a select few. Recently, public commentary and criticism of the municipality may feel more visible and, in some cases, has been personal towards staff,” she said.
Employee Assistance Program
The CAO said Clarington is committed to supporting employees and fostering a respectful and safe workplace. If staff experience behavior that affects their well-being, or if they need support during this time, support is available to all staff, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, through our employee assistance program.
“I also want to remind everyone of the importance of taking care of your mental health and disconnecting from work after hours,” she advised.
Team Carrington has achieved so much over the last four years, and everyone knows it…Thank you for continuing to show up with professionalism, care and dedication – Team Clarington is made stronger by each of you, and your work is genuinely appreciated and valued,” the CAO added.
