Those making fun of ‘vulnerable suspicious’ told to be kind

A Durham police public request to help find a missing person from Whitby, has drawn voluble debate on social media.

Some initial comments making fun of both the police’s ‘vulnerable suspicious’  description, and of the missing nude person, drew numerous calls for kindness and support towards the older person.

On Friday, July 3 between 1 am to 1:20 am it was reported to police that an unknown older male with no clothing was observed wandering in the areas of both Fifewood Crescent and Chipperfield Crescent in Whitby.

The male is described as: White, approximately 5’10” – 6’ tall, approximately 75-80 years-old, with a thin build, shorty grey hair, and a clean-shaven face. A photo of the male is show above.

Anyone who has observed this male or has any information is asked to contact police at 905-579-1520.

Old Age Diseases

Given the age of the missing person, residents pointed out that he may be suffering from diseases like Dementia or Alzheimer’s.

One resident suggested that persons such as the missing man should be made to wear air tag bracelets that aren’t easily taken off. That way if and when this happens their family or caregivers can locate them easily.

“Would it put your mind at ease to know the home owners were awakened at 1:33 am by their Ring system and responded within three minutes by going outside to help the gentleman and call DRPS? He’d already disappeared. DRPS responded within minutes, continuing the search with drones, squads and a solid presence until 4:54 am. Please be kind as extraordinary resources went in to locating the gentleman. It’s heartwarming to see how much the community cares as we all hope he’s been recognized and is now safe and comfortable,” said another.
