Traffic alerts for Oshawa, Clarington, Scugog, Uxbridge

Several road closures are taking place across the Durham Region for repairs or construction work.

Oshawa: Farewell Street in Oshawa will only have one lane of southbound traffic with the northbound lanes closed, according to the Region of Durham.

The northbound lane closure is in place from now until November. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

The restrictions are in place on Farewell Street, from Bloor Street East to Wentworth Street East. Southbound traffic is permitted through this section while northbound traffic is being detoured. Detour routes are posted.

This construction is part of the rehabilitation project for Farewell Street. Businesses in the area will remain open during construction

Bowmanville: Starting Monday, July 6, the Municipality of Clarington and the Region of Durham will be working together to complete localized removal and repaving of asphalt in the southbound lanes of Liberty Street South and the westbound lane of Baseline Road West in Bowmanville.

To minimize disruption at this busy intersection, all work is scheduled overnight between 9 pm and 6 am over a period of up to four nights, weather permitting.

Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area where possible and use alternative routes.

Additional interim road repairs are planned at the intersection of Baseline Road and Duke Street, near the Highway 401 ramp entrance later this year. This is in advance of a future road rehabilitation project that is currently in the design phase.

Courtice: Construction will also be taking place on Trulls Road in the community of Courtice from July 6 to December 31, 2028 to safely construct a trunk sanitary sewer.

There will be lane restrictions during daytime hours on Trulls Road, from 100 metres south of Bloor Street (Regional Road 22) to Adelaide Avenue (Regional Road 58). Multiple road closures will also be required throughout the duration of this project. Detour routes will be posted.

Scugog: Saintfield Road (Regional Road 6) in Scugog will be closed from July 6 to November 30. This is to remove and replace the Saintfield Road Bridge, which carries Saintfield Road over Layton River.

The road closure will be on Saintfield Road, from Old Simcoe Road to 150 metres east of the bridge, in Scugog. Detour routes will be in place.

This work involves the demolition of the existing bridge and full replacement.

Scugog: There will be lane restrictions on Regional Road 57 in the Township of Scugog from the week of July 6 to August 31.

The lane restrictions will be in place on Regional Road 57, from 100 metres northeast of Scugog Point Road to one kilometre east of St. Christopher’s Beach Road, and from 300 metres east of View Lake Road to the Durham/Kawartha boundary line, in Scugog.

It is being done for road rehabilitation work.

Uxbridge: Lane restrictions are in place on Regional Road 8 in the Township of Uxbridge until July 13 to safely complete the final road surface paving and grading following the replacement of the bridge last year.

Lane restrictions will be in place on Regional Road 8 at Siloam Bridge, between Concession Road 2 and Concession Road 3.

Drivers should expect delays and plan for extra time when using Siloam Bridge.

Uxbridge: There are upcoming road closure on Zephyr Road (Regional Road 13) in the Township of Uxbridge.

These will be from July 13 to October 7. Following the closure, lane restrictions will remain in place until December 2026. Work will pause during the winter months and is expected to resume in May 2027 to complete final paving.

The road closure will be on Zephyr Road, between Concession Road 3 and Concession Road 4, in Uxbridge. Detour routes will be place and local access will be maintained.

It is needed for the safe reconstruction of the road.
