Van driver clocked doing 156kmh, faces 18 charges

It was ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ and perhaps this van driver was trying to finish off his long work day as quickly as possible, but speeding was perhaps not the best solution.

The eagle-eyed Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers clocked the driver at 156kmh after dark on a road in Durham.

The driver now faces a total of 18 charges, according to the OPP Highway Safety Division.

It said Whitby OPP partnered with the Ministry of Transport on Friday night in Bowmanville, in the Municipality of Clarington, for a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) speed and speed limiter enforcement initiative.

OPP said the total of 18 charges included:

  • 8 speeding charges
  • 9 speed limiter violations
  • 1 stunt driving charge

“Speed limits and speed limiters are in place for a reason — to improve safety and help protect everyone,” it pointed out.

No further details were disclosed.
