Crane work, rail repairs and charity run to impact Durham roads

Drivers across Durham Region can expect several traffic disruptions from today due to construction and a charity run event, according to notices from local municipalities and regional authorities.

Pickering Closures

In Pickering, Sandy Beach Road will be temporarily closed from Bayly Street to Alliance Street from Wednesday, June 18 to Friday, June 20, as Lift All Crane dismantles a tower crane for a newly built condo. The closure, required for the setup of a boom crane, will take place between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, though the road will remain closed for the entire duration of the work.

According to the City of Pickering, driveways for nearby businesses will not be affected, and local traffic and emergency services will continue to have access. Motorists are advised to use Alliance Road to access businesses north of the closure, and traffic controllers will be on-site. The driveway at 1502 Sandy Beach Road will mark the furthest access point. Celebration Drive will also be blocked off.

Oshawa lane restrictions

In Oshawa, the Region of Durham is advising residents of lane restrictions on Ritson Road South, between Viola Avenue and Mitchell Avenue, from June 16 to June 20. The lane reductions are needed to safely repair expansion joints on a railway bridge in the area.

The region acknowledges that the work may be disruptive and is working to complete it as efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution around pedestrians, cyclists, and work crews.

Run for the Diamond Uxbridge

Meanwhile, in Uxbridge, the annual Run for the Diamond in support of the Uxbridge Hospital Auxiliary is set to take place on Sunday, June 22. The event includes a 5K and 10K run/walk, with road closures beginning at 7:30 am and expected to reopen around 10:00 am, once participants have cleared the area.

The following roads will be impacted:

  • Concession 7, from Goodwood Road to Main Street South at Reach Street
  • Elgin Park Drive, from Toronto Street South to Concession 7
  • Brookdale Road, from Concession 7 to Foxfire Chase
  • Wagg Road, from Concession 7 to Concession 6

Durham Regional Police Service will be on site to assist with managing the closures. For more information about the event, visit runuxbridge.com.
