Dog park to close from May 29 to June 12

The Municipality of Clarington yesteday announced that the Newcastle Leash-Free Dog Park is closing for about two weeks, beginning May 29. Reopening is scheduled for June 12.

The closure is needed for crews to complete necessary construction work on Phase 2 of the Newcastle Community Park. Work is currently underway to construct new tennis and pickleball courts, a baseball diamond, shade structure and more. The new park is expected to open late this summer, said a statement.

“We would also like to remind residents that the skate park will remain closed and fenced off until construction on the community park is complete. Please do not cross the barriers that have been put in place to protect the safety of the community,” it said.

“We apologize for any inconvenience during construction and thank you for your patience,” it added.
