Doug Ford ‘hammered’ in Pickering but says he’s okay

Ontario Premier Doug Ford had a lucky escape yesterday after a high-speed side-swap on the vehicle he was riding in on Highway 401 in the City of Pickering.

He said the other vehicle came out of nowhere and side-swiped his car. “Next thing you know, we got hammered, just hammered”.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), which holds charge of highways in the province, was called in to a two-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon around 12:30 pm. The collision took place on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Brock Road in the City of Pickering, said an OPP spokesperson (see video below).

He said the two occupants in the frst vehicle were both taken to hospital with minor injuries where they were treated and released.

The driver of that vehicle, an 18-year old from Oshawa, has been charged with dangerous driving. Court appearance is on February 20 in Oshawa.

The other vehicle, operated by the OPP Preventative Services Section, did not result in any injuries by any of the occupants. One of those occupants was Ontario Premier Doug Ford,” OPP said.

The spokesperson said the OPP continues to investigate, and if there is anyone out there with dashcam or a witness who has not yet spoken to police, to call Toronto OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The Ontario Premier was visiting the Darlington Energy Park in Courtice, with Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification, where they announced Ontario’s plan to achieve Am-Can energy security and power economic growth on both sides of the border as part of Fortress Am-Can, a renewed strategic alliance between Canada and America.

Fortress Am-Can will leverage Ontario’s unique advantages to help America bring jobs back home as it decouples from China, including by enhancing and building out the integrated Am-Can energy and electricity grid to encourage more exports of Canadian energy and electricity to the United States.
