Driver crashes into pole, knocks power out for 2,300+

Another driver has done it. We don’t know what is the fascination of electricity poles, but they do seem to have a powerful pull on drivers in Durham.

This time – and during a heat wave – power was knocked out, along with the pole, for more than 2,300 utility users in Whitby.

Early yesterday morning Elexicon Energy posted dramatic images of a pole knocked down, power lines on the ground, and a badly damaged vehicle.

Our crews are working hard to safely restore power in the Town of Whitby, said a tweet from the utility provider.

We thank you for your patience. Remember to stay at least 10 metres away from downed power lines, it added.

“We had 2,319 customers without power due to the car accident in Whitby. As of 9:23 am, 2,316 customers had been restored. Our crews are repairing a transformer, to energize the remaining customers,” said an Elexicon Energy statement issued to Durham Post.
