Teen robbery suspects shear off pole in getaway hurry

Durham Police have charged two teens after they fled from police following an attempted robbery in Whitby Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday, June 2 at about 2:25 pm, members of Central West Division were called to the Pringle Creek Plaza on Anderson Street for a suspicious vehicle with three masked males inside. The suspects were observed inside a pharmacy in the plaza and fled in a silver Honda Accord when police attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle, which was stolen in Toronto, drove at a high rate of speed, mounting the curb before it struck a hydro pole, sheering it off onto a vehicle and a bus shelter. Police discontinued the pursuit for public safety reasons.

Two of the three suspects were arrested by York Regional Police in Markham. Police seized a loaded firearm and two teens are facing numerous charges.

Two 16-year-old males, of Toronto face a combined 31 criminal charges which include: Fail to Stop After Accident; Possession of a Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Store Firearm – Regulation; Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Flight from Police; Possess Property Obtained by Crime and Robbery.

The investigation is ongoing and police are looking for a third suspect.

They were held for bail hearings.
