The volatile weather is having its toll on outdoor ice rinks set up with much enthusiasm at the beginning of this year.
They have been on and off pretty much this winter [see Related Story below] with most municipalities finally calling it a day
City of Pickering announced Tuesday that the city’s outdoor ice rinks are closed for the season.
“Unfortunately, the mild temperatures and rain have done irreversible damage to the rinks. Thank you for your understanding,” it said.
Oshawa too has announced the closure of its natural outdoor ice rinks close for the season. “Due to the weather and ice conditions, the natural outdoor ice rinks at Delpark Homes Centre (1661 Harmony Road North) are now closed for the season.”
The city thanked its sponsors Sobeys Inc., Their Opportunity and Remax Jazz Inc. Brokerage, who made the first season of outdoor skating possible.
Whitby said recreational skating on Tuesdays from 4-5:45 pm at Iroquois Park Sports Centre will not longer be offered as of Tuesday February 22.
Town of Ajax said the outdoor skating update at MCC and Rotary Park natural rinks are open. It said the ARC and Carruthers Marsh Pavilion are closed for the season.
