Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday reported some 15 collisions on snowy Durham roads yesterday morning.
Environment Canada had forecast up to 10cm of snowfall and alerted motorists of difficult driving conditions due to icy roads and blowing snow.
“We have been dispatched to many motor vehicle collision this morning as the snow continues to fall. We are at 15 separate collisions at this time and many more coming in to our collision reporting centre in Whitby,” said a DRPS tweet of around 10:30 am yesterday.
DRPS North Division Traffic reminded motorists to drive according to road and weather conditions, while DRPS East Division urged drivers to be safe and drive according to speed and conditions!

Extreme Cold Alert extended
Durham Region Health Department issued an Extreme Cold Weather Alert has been issued for Durham until Saturday morning (February 26).
GO Transit said later yesterday through Friday morning, there is a snowfall advisory across most of its service area. “If you are travelling with us, give yourself extra time, and be careful getting on and off our buses and trains.”
City of Oshawa asked residents to make room for snowplows. Vehicles parked on Oshawa streets while salting or snow clearing is underway may be ticketed or towed, it said.
Town of Ajax began snow clearing yesterday at 3 am and included salting of roads, sidewalks, trails and municipal parking lots. it also asked residents to remove vehicles from roadways.
Remember to drive cautiously when out on the roads. Winter operations are underway so drive with care and avoid parking on the street to allow crews to clear the road. Also be sure to fully stop at intersections, especially when a crossing guard is present, said the Township of Scugog.
