Suspect who prompted Whitby schools lockdown charged

A 20-year-old suspect was arrested and is facing numerous charges for breaking into a Whitby pharmacy while armed with an imitation handgun.

A precautionary lockdown in schools in the area on Wednesday [see below], was triggered by an armed suspect at a nearby pharmacy.

On February 23 at about 8:50 am, members of Central West Division responded to a break and enter at West Lynde Pharmacy on Dundas Street. The suspect broke into the pharmacy while it was still closed, stole prescriptions before fleeing on foot. When the suspect fled, he pointed the imitation firearm at an employee of the pharmacy who was just arriving on scene, said a police statement.

The suspect from Whitby, is charged with: Use of Imitation Firearm During Flight; Possess Weapons Dangerous; Break and Enter Commit Business; Carry Concealed Weapon; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000; Assault with a Weapon and Point Firearm.
