Fourth murder of 2026 suspect found in 6.5 hours

Durham police yesterday took just six and a half hours to find and arrest a man who has been charged with second degree murder in the region’s fourth homicide of 2026.

On Tuesday, October 6, at around 8 am, members from North Division responded to a sudden death call in the area of Water Street and Mary Street.

Officers arrived on scene and located a young man with traumatic injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as Taylor John Frey, a 32-year-old from Port Perry.

The homicide unit began an investigation and identified a suspect, who was arrested at approximately 2:30 pm, without incident.

The 33-year old suspect from Port Perry was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

This is an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety, police said. It did not provide the description of the weapon used nor the motive or any further details.

The Homicide Unit is asking anyone with information or surveillance footage to contact Det. Brian Stewart of the DRPS Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext.5416.

In May, police said a 16-year old turned himself in for the murder of 23-year old. This was Durham’s third murder of 2026. A 24-year old was the victim of second murder, while a 78-year old was the first murder victim of 2026.
