Elexicon asked to explain storm response including delay to some homes

Elexicon Energy has been invited by the Town of Ajax to present its overall response to the May 21 weather event.

The presentation is to be made before the town council in September.

On May 21, a derecho storm left lasting impact across Ontario, including in the Region of Durham. Damaging winds downed trees and tree limbs, brought down power lines, and caused other property damage. The town said utility crews and operations staff worked hard to restore power and clean up downed trees and debris on town property, and community members pitched in to assist the neighbors.

As result of the storm, 64,000 customers of Elexicon Energy, the local utility, lost power. While power was restored to many within ours, others were waiting several days, including residents of Pickering Beach Road, whose power was restored six days later, on May 27.

The windstorm resulted in significant logistical response challenges and residents expressed their feedback and concerns regarding power outages to the town.

Now the town is asking Elexicon Energy to report on its service levels, customer service support and communications, challenges identified, and lessons learned.
