Fake gun used to intimidate during street altercation

Durham police yesterday said a man is facing charges after pointing an imitation firearm and making threats during an altercation in Ajax.

On Friday, March 13, around 3:40 am, members of West Division responded to an armed person call in the area of Bayly Street West and Monarch Avenue.

Two males were involved in a verbal altercation when one of the males brandished a firearm and made threats. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries, police said.

On Wednesday, April 1, members of the West Crime Team, with assistance from the East Crime Team and Tactical Support Unit, located the suspect and took him into custody. Subsequently a search warrant was executed at a residence in Oshawa, where an imitation firearm was located and seized.

This is an isolated incident as the suspect and victim are known to each other.

The 24 year old man from Oshawa was held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the D/Cst. Davis of the West Crime Team at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905.
