First Murder of 2023: Man succumbs to stab wounds

Durham Police investigators have charged a 37-year-old male with Second Degree Murder in connection to a stabbing that occurred on Thursday morning.

On January 12 at about 8:55 am, members of North Division and West Division responded to a residence on Allbright Road in Uxbridge for a disturbance. Officers arrived and received information that a 66-year-old male had been stabbed at this residence by a known suspect, said a police statement.

Police located the victim and he was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. The victim, John Genereux, age 66, of Uxbridge succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The suspect was arrested at the scene.

This is the first homicide investigation in Durham Region for 2023.
