Help police find suspect who set fire to Pickering home

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is asking for the public’s assistance following an arson at a Pickering residence.

On Tuesday, April 22, at about 10:15 pm, officers from West Division responded to a fire near Granby Court and Altona Road. Upon arrival, they found the front door of a home fully engulfed in flames.

The homeowner, who was not at home at the time, was able to alert the sole occupant after noticing the fire through a doorbell camera. Investigators determined that an accelerant had been used to ignite the fire.

Further investigation revealed that a suspect had placed a flaming item in the middle of the front porch before fleeing the area prior to police arrival. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have video footage, including home surveillance or dashcam video, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Broome of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2531.
