Impaired driver flees from police…into a ditch

A 46-year-old Toronto female was arrested after fleeing from police in Clarington Monday morning.

On February 1 at about 9:40 am, a member of East Division responded for an impaired driver called in by a citizen near Mill Street and Highway 401 ramp in Clarington. The suspect vehicle, a black Volkswagen Tiguan SUV was driving erratically and failed to stop for police. The suspect vehicle drove through a stop sign almost hitting other vehicles on the roadway, said a police statement.

Police lost sight of the vehicle near Newcastle Drive and Lakebreeze Drive. Police located the suspect vehicle minutes later near Toronto Street after it rolled into the ditch, landing on its roof. Emergency Services extricated the female and she was placed under arrest.

The female was taken to a local hospital and released with minor injuries.

Carolyn Finlayson, age 46, of Donway West in Toronto, has been charged with: Flight from Peace Officer; Operation While Impaired by Alcohol and Operation While Impaired-Exceed Blood Alcohol. She was released on an Undertaking.
