Jack Frost begins his annual visits to Durham

He may or may not be punctual – perhaps due to climate change – but Mr. Jack Frost last night reportedly began his annual visits to our Region of Durham.

Environment Canada yesterday issued a ‘Frost Advisory’ for the townships of Scugog, Uxbridge and Brock in northern Durham Region.

The Farmer’s Almanac predicts frost in the southern municipalities of Durham on October 10.

The Township of Scugog yesterday issued an alert notifying residents that the township was under a ‘Frost Advisory’ for the night of October 8, into the morning. “It is recommended to take preventative measures to protect frost-sensitive plants and trees.”

Environment Canada too advised that frost may damage some crops in some areas. Temperatures were expected to drop to near zero degrees Celsius at night into early Thursday morning.

The weather agency asked residents to cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas.

Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops.
