Lane closures and delays on Hwy 401 after vehicle fire

A vehicle fire on Highway 401 in Ajax caused major traffic delays on Thursday, July 10, leading to multiple lane closures in both directions, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Police reported the incident shortly before 1 pm, noting that several eastbound lanes were closed east of Salem Road. Westbound traffic was also affected, and drivers were advised to avoid the area and plan alternate routes due to heavy congestion.

By 1:03 pm, three left lanes had reopened on the eastbound side, with one lane remaining closed as emergency crews continued to work at the scene. Traffic delays remained significant during this time.

The OPP confirmed by 2:45 pm that all eastbound lanes had reopened. However, a heavy traffic backlog persisted.
