A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a string of incidents in Ajax, which Durham Regional Police say appear to have specifically targeted women.
According to police, the first incident occurred on Thursday, May 29, around 7:20 pm. A female victim reported being approached by an unknown man in the area of Harwood Avenue and Clements Road West. The suspect allegedly touched her inappropriately. The victim reported the incident to police later that evening.
The following day, on Friday, May 30, at about 3:50 pm, another female victim was walking through the plaza at 314 Harwood Avenue South when she was approached by a man who tried to take her backpack. Despite his aggressive behaviour and demands, she managed to get away and approached a nearby bystander for help. The suspect fled on foot.
On Saturday, May 31, around 11:50 am, a third female victim was walking on the sidewalk near 75 Bayly Street East when a man attempted to grab her backpack, causing her to fall. The victim screamed, drawing the attention of nearby bystanders who came to assist.
Investigators linked the three incidents and identified a 27-year-old male suspect. He was arrested without incident on Wednesday, June 4.
A 27-year-old male, of Scugog, was charged and held for a bail hearing. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
Police are concerned there may be other victims.
