Man sprays ‘noxious substance’ in theatres

The police of two Ontario regions are looking for a suspect who is alleged to have sprayed a ‘noxious substance’ in movie theatres in their areas on Friday, October 4.

Police investigators from Durham Region Police Service and Waterloo Regional Police have joined forces and issued an appeal to the public to help identify the suspect, whose image from a surveillance camera has been released (see above).

“DRPS CW Division are working with WRPS to identify a suspect who damaged a movie screen and administered a noxious substance in a Kitchener and Whitby theatre,” said DRPS tweet yesterday.

Waterloo Regional Police said they are “Looking to identify and speak to this male in connection to incidents where a noxious substance was sprayed inside movie theatres in Kitchener and Whitby”.

The Incidents

The first incident occurred at approximately 1 pm inside a theatre on Gateway Park in Kitchener. A male entered the theatre during the screening of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, used an object to cut the movie screen, and then sprayed individuals with what is believed to be bear spray.

The second incident occurred at approximately 3 pm, inside a movie theatre on Consumers Drive in Whitby. A male entered the theatre during the screening of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, cut the movie screen, and sprayed audience members with what is believed to be bear spray.

It’s believed these two incidents are related.

Suspect Description

The male is described as being between 25 to 30 years old with a thin build and a black beard. He was wearing black pants, a black hooded sweater, light grey shoes, and gold-rimmed eyeglasses.
