Multiple explosions, vehicles on fire on Highway 401

UPDATE: DRPS Traffic Services this morning said roads through the Town of Ajax and City of Pickering are very busy.

Plan ahead, drive safe and be mindful that everyone is in the same boat – delayed, and likely late.

Aggressive and dangerous driving will not be excused. Work as a team and everyone will arrive safely, it said.

“Fatal collision investigation. Highway 401/Brock Road, Ajax. Morning travel will be affected. Highway closures in place between Westney and Whites. Updates to follow.

DRPS Traffic Services last night reported a “huge collision” in Pickering.

It said the incident took place on Highway 401 westbound at Brock Road.

“Multiple explosions and motor vehicles on fire,” said a tweet.

It said Highway 401 is closed westbound at Westney Road in Ajax.

The announcement came in just before 11 pm.

No further details were available till late last night.

Meanwhile, Durham Regional Police was on scene for an ongoing investigation at Wilson Road South and King Street East.

King Street East was temporarily closed east of Wilson Road South.
