The Township of Uxbridge announced that the Ontario government is investing over $4.5 million to support the redevelopment and expansion of Oak Valley Health – Uxbridge. This new funding follows the $3 million the government previously invested to support early planning for the redevelopment.
Uxbridge states the redevelopment will bring health care and community providers together across three facilities:
- a new hospital,
- a long-term care home, and
- an ambulatory care building.
The long-term care home is planned to accommodate 192 beds, 92 of which are new beds for the region.
Once completed, the expanded hospital will include:
• Increased bed capacity, with the addition of 11 new beds, bringing the total number of beds at the hospital to 31.
• Expansion of services, including diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory services, and laboratory and pharmacy services.
• Increased access to inpatient, emergency, and ambulatory services.
“With the approval for early works to begin at the Uxbridge Hospital Redevelopment Site, we are a step closer to getting it done,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, MPP for Pickering-Uxbridge.
Through this new investment, several site works will be completed to support the next stage of Oak Valley Health – Uxbridge’s redevelopment project, including the construction of the east portion of the north service road and the provision of a new mechanical generator. The expansion of the hospital will create a larger space to expand services and ensure the hospital can continue to meet the needs of the Uxbridge community. Site work is set to begin once the construction contract is awarded and is scheduled to be completed before the main project begins.
The Ministry of Health is working with Oak Valley Health and Infrastructure Ontario to issue the Request for Proposals to tender this project. Once the project is awarded, a construction schedule will be confirmed.
