Police seek suspect driver in sexual assault case

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers are searching for a male suspect after a reported sexual assault in Whitby.

According to police, on Sunday, January 12, at about 4:05 am, members of Central West Division say they responded to a report of a sexual assault in the area of Victoria Street East and Thickson Road South. Police stated that a victim reported being assaulted after accepting a ride.

Investigators said the victim was in the area of Simcoe Street South and Hall Street in Oshawa at about 2:30 am when a male suspect approached and offered a ride. Police allege that the suspect drove the victim to the area of Moore Court and William Smith Drive in Whitby, where the assault occurred.

Police described the suspect as: male, Brown, 40-50 years of age, large build, black beard. Officers stated he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

The suspect vehicle was described by police as a black pickup truck with automatic running boards and black leather seats. The victim reported seeing construction helmets in the back seat.

Police are asking anyone with video footage, including dash cam, from the area of Simcoe Street South between Olive Avenue and Highway 401 from January 12 between 2:15 am and 3:15 am, to contact them.
