Neuron Mobility’s ScootSafe campaign aims to highlight how riding and parking responsibly can help improve safety outcomes for riders and the broader community, said a company statement.

Partnering with the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF), the company is organizing a ScootSafe event held at Lakeview Park on July 18 from 2pm to 3pm. During the campaign, Neuron’s roving safety ambassadors will be on the ground to conduct safety briefings for members of the public to familiarize them with the local riding rules. Riders will also continue to receive messaging for real-time e-scooter safety guidelines.

Riders are encouraged to visit the company’s ScootSafe Academy, where they can complete city-specific modules to equip themselves with the confidence to ride and park an e-scooter safely while earning free credits. In addition to interactive quizzes, videos and games, ScootSafe Academy also plays an important role in re-educating those who break the rules by delivering targeted training modules specific to their violation.

Rental e-scooters are being used for short trips around the city as riders clock an average Neuron trip of 2.5 kilometres and the average duration of 14 minutes. They have also become an important part of the daily commute with Lakeview Park, Downtown and Durham College/Ontario Tech being the most popular places for riders to start and end their trip, Neuron said.

“Overwhelmingly there’s been positive feedback from riders about the service but there is more to be done to promote responsible riding and parking. Through our ScootSafe campaign, we want to take this opportunity to remind all riders to never drink and ride, park responsibly and protect themselves by wearing a helmet, which are provided on our e-scooters,” said Ankush Karwal, Head of Market for Canada at Neuron Mobility.
