Oshawa Power sets up team to help storm-hit municipalities

Oshawa Power crews are assisting Hydro One with power restoration following ice storms that impacted communities across Ontario over the weekend and earlier this week, according to Oshawa Power.

A five-person Oshawa Power crew, supported by two bucket trucks, has been on-site in the northeast Clarington area since early Tuesday morning, working alongside Hydro One crews. The team remains on standby for reassignment to other affected regions as restoration efforts continue.

“When major storms strike, causing this level of damage to local electricity grids, mutual support becomes essential,” said Daniel Arbour, Prescient & CEO of Oshawa Power. “We’re proud to support Hydro One and provide resources to help restore power safely and as quickly as possible for those affected. We are also incredibly proud of our crew members’ commitment to serving those beyond our borders and helping restore this essential service.”

Restoration efforts are being supported by neighbouring utilities as part of the Hydro One Mutual Assistance Plan and other mutual assistance agreements, bringing together crews from across Ontario and other parts of the country. The recent storms caused widespread outages and infrastructure damage across much of Ontario, prompting a large-scale response from multiple utilities.

Oshawa Power noted that it was able to avoid major damage within its own service territory, allowing the utility to quickly mobilize support for neighbouring areas.
