Flooding across the region has prompted authorities in both Clarington and Oshawa to close several recreational trails until further notice.
In Clarington, officials have closed the entire Bowmanville Valley Trail from Highway 2 to the Waterfront Trail. They cited creek bank flooding and swift currents as factors that have rendered the trail unsafe for public use.
Regional authorities also warned that spring rain and snowmelt may result in higher water levels and increased water velocities in rivers and streams, advising residents to maintain a safe distance from fast-moving or overflowing water, and to ensure children and pets are kept away from affected areas.
Similarly, the City of Oshawa has announced that, due to flooding, several trails are closed:
- Harmony Trail at the King Street East underpass
- Harmony Trail at the Bond Street East underpass
- Harmony Trail at the Adelaide Avenue East underpass
- Oshawa Trail Sinclair Avenue to Gibb Street
