Part of Newcastle road to be sold to developers

The Municipality of Clarington has announced that it is proposing that a portion of the road allowance on Given Road be closed and declared surplus to sell the lands to the adjacent property owners, Tornat Newcastle Limited and Lindvest Property (Clarington South) Limited, for fair market value.

The municipality is the current owner of the lands located on Lot 30, Concession 2 in Newcastle, and have determined that the road segments are not required for municipal purposes.

Staff Report EGD-011-20 regarding this matter will be submitted to Council at a General Government Committee meeting on Monday, June 22, 2020, for consideration.

Newcastle Mixed-Use Development

ClaringtonMunicipality said the application for  a proposed development is currently under appeal and is under consideration by the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.

Tornat Newcastle Limited proposes to develop the lands located at the northeast corner of King Avenue West and Rudell Road in Newcastle.

The revised proposal includes:

  • An apartment building containing 172 apartment units (four to six storeys without loft)
  • 10 townhouse units
  • Two mixed-use buildings containing a total of 16 apartment units and 1,570 square metres of commercial floor space
  • A park block (0.143 ha)

  1. Apartments are urgently needed in Newcastle.Sounds like a wonderful project.Let’s get on with it.

    False, there is already an abundance of vacant, overpriced apartments available throughout Newcastle. Check realtor.ca and you will find enough to satisfy any demand for the near future. What we urgently need is more schools, wider roads, larger water & sewer supplies and a variety of infrastructure before we even consider adding more and more apartments. There’s already at least half a dozen and at the prices they are, along with the fees on top, its cheaper to get a detached home.
