Phase two works at Newcastle park start next Monday

Starting the week of Monday, October 31, construction will begin on phase two of Newcastle Community Park, according to Clarington Municipality.

Crews will work through the fall to prepare and grade the site for spring construction, which will include:

  • Building a tournament-grade hardball diamond.
  • Building pickleball and tennis courts.
  • Installing lighting for courts, skate park, ball diamond and walkways.
  • Installing benches, waste bins, bleachers, and a shade structure.
  • Paving asphalt pathways.
  • Planting trees, shrubs and sod.

Access to Diane Hamre Recreation Complex will be maintained throughout the construction, said a statement.

The leash-free dog park will also remain open; however, it may close temporarily during work on the pathway.

As a safety precaution, the skate park will be fenced off and closed until the park reopens in July 2023.
