Police chase pick-up truck driver dragging stolen ATM

Durham Police yesterday said two females are in custody after attempting to steal an ATM machine in Oshawa.

The suspects used a pick-up truck to pull the ATM machine from the ground.

On Monday, October 7 at about 1 am, members of Central West Division responded to a call for two suspicious vehicles in the area of Winchester Road East and Simcoe Street North.

When officers arrived, they located a van and a pick-up truck, in the parking lot. The pick-up truck fled upon police arrival, and the van remained. Officers followed the pick-up truck, which was dragging an ATM, into a nearby cornfield. The female suspect then fled on foot, and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the van had been reported stolen. A female in the van was also arrested, police said.

One suspect, age 30, of Clarington is facing five charges, and was held for a bail hearing.

The second suspect, age 33, of Whitby is facing six charges, and was released on an undertaking. Names and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. West of Central West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 4067.
