Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) K-9 Unit has always been in the forefront of some dramatic and unusual chases and captures.
Two of the recent cases involved police service dogs Taz and Rogue.
It was night and it was cold, but PC Wayne King and K9 Rogue (above) as well as officers from the DRPS West Division, teamed up to track and locate a suspect who had fled from a vehicle collision.
Rogue tracked the driver and located him unconscious in heavy brush.
He was transported to hospital with minor injuries, said the DRPS K-9 Unit adding: “The nose knows.”
In another incident, PC Dunlop and K9 Taz teamed up with DRPS Central West Division officers to search and locate a lone perp after he broke into an elderly victim’s residence.
Taz quickly located the suspect attempting to evade detection by hiding behind a furnace. But then, K9 Taz (below) had a different idea.
The suspect was taken into custody.
