Scugog starts maintenance works on 192km of gravel roads

The Township of Scugog is reminding residents that seasonal maintenance on its 192 kilometres of gravel roads is currently underway, with full re-grading scheduled twice a year—once in late spring and again in the fall.

According to the township, this year’s spring maintenance efforts are being shaped by weather conditions, which significantly impact the state of gravel roads. Township staff have already begun performing minor surface repairs to help mitigate further deterioration, noting that excessive grading at this time could compromise the gravel base and cause additional damage.

With continued mild temperatures, increased rutting is expected as traffic moves across the roads. Additional maintenance will be completed as weather conditions allow.

Scugog is asking residents for their continued patience while staff assess and respond to changing conditions throughout the spring.

Despite the challenges, the township is highlighting progress in gravel road rehabilitation. In 2024, $1 million was allocated to resurface 22 kilometres of gravel roads. Over the past five years, Scugog has invested $4.5 million into its gravel road network, improving 117 kilometres—or roughly 60 per cent—of the system.
