Scugog to pause recreation programs until the new year

The Township of Scugog has announced that is is to pause recreation programs until the new year, as a measure of protection against Covi-19.

To protect the health and safety of the community, and to mitigate the ongoing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Township of Scugog has made the decision to pause recreation programming until the new year, said a township statement.

Municipal camp programs that were scheduled to run over the holidays were cancelled. However, there are other programs to be considered to protect the public and municipal users. Effective Friday, December 24, Scugog paused select programming and will delay the start of winter recreation programs until Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Recreation Programs include:

  • Drop-in shinny and scrimmage programs
  • Drop-in pickleball programs
  • Registered recreation programs starting in January
  • Township run ice programs that provide a safe space to physically distance (e.g., public skate, stick n’ puck, adult skate and parent and tot) will still be running. Please visit scugog.ca/recreation to view the updated skating schedule.

On the cancellation of Winter Break Camps, the township said, staff will be working to process and complete refunds for all affected registrants. Residents will receive a refund for all winter break camps without any administrative fees added.

Sunderland Arena reopening

Meanwhile, Brock has announced the reopening of the Sunderland Arena, which was closed following a positive case of Covi-19.

After extensive cleaning, the Sunderland Arena will be reopening ahead of schedule on Wednesday, December 29. Scheduled public programming will resume.

The Township of Brock wishes to thank the public for their patience and understanding. said a statement.

On December 25th, a positive test was confirmed within the Sunderland Arena.

All public health measures were completed and the case has been isolated. No close contact was confirmed and no additional contact tracing was necessary.
