Security guard dies in shooting at Pickering Casino Resort

A security guard has died following a shooting at the Pickering Casino Resort, according to Durham Police.

On Monday, October 9 at about 5:05 am, members from West Division responded to reports of an armed person at the Pickering Casino Resort located at 888 Durham Live Avenue in Pickering.

Police arrived on scene and were directed inside of the casino where they located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The casino was evacuated and life-saving measures were performed on the victim. The victim was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he has since succumbed to his injuries, said a police statement.

Police are reviewing security footage from the casino and are actively looking for multiple suspects who fled the area.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Michael Ferdinand.

Police are appealing to anyone who was inside the casino at the time of the incident and may have any information to come forward. Any witnesses with cellphone video or dash-cam footage are also encouraged to come forward and speak with investigators.
