Six schools in Oshawa went under lockdown following an altercation in which a youth was stabbed.
The schools included:
- Coronation Public School;
- Harmony Heights;
- Eastdale CVI;
- Sir Albert Love;
- Vincent Massey PS; and
- Attersley School.
Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) later announced the lifting of the lockdown, which was confirmed by the Durham District School Board (DDSB).
“The Hold and Secures have been lifted at Coronation PS, Harmony Heights, Eastdale CVI, Vincent Massey, Gordon B Attersley and Sir Albert Love,” said a police tweet.
Police are still in the area investigating an altercation with one person taken to hospital with stab wounds, it added.
DRPS said police were called at 12:38 pm.to the Harmony/Adelaide area of Oshawa. A 15-year-old male was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries after he was stabbed during an altercation.
A ‘Hold and Secure’ is a safety measure used to keep students inside the school when an active police investigation is in the area. Doors are locked and students are not to leave or go outside for recess until advised by police. Schools are functionally normally inside, police explained.
