DRPS Traffic Services said approximately one person a day is killed in a car crash involving speed and loss of control.
Speeding is defined as driving over the speed limit, driving too fast for road conditions, or racing.
“The faster you drive, the more distance you need to stop safely. Please slow down!” it said in an advisory.
Weed Driving
DRPS Traffic Services also pointed out that marijuana affects your ability to drive safely.
The tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) found in marijuana can affect your co-ordination, reaction time, attention, decision-making, and ability to judge distances.
It pointed out that these effects of marijuana can last for more than 24 hours.
Distracted Driving
DRPS Traffic Services said distracted driving has become one of the leading causes of injury and death on Ontario roads.
Approximately 25 per cent of all fatal and injury collisions in Durham are due to distracted driving.
“Put your phone down & focus on the road,” it said.
